|
| There are lots of yoga mats out
there in the shops available for purchase, but do you
know what is the difference between each type? Here are
some of the more popular types of mats which are available: |
| |
| EVA (foam) - Also known as Ethylene vinyl
acetate or foam mats. Foam mats have smooth surface and
very light. It can be at times too soft for a good Yoga
workout. These mats are usually available at a very cheap/low
price as the cost of production is low. These mats have
low traction support which might be hard for a good yoga
exercise. Yoga blocks are usually made out of foam
material. |
| |
| PVC - Also known as sticky mats.
These are the more popular choice of mats as they
demonstrate non slip feature, affordable, soft and
flexible. The non slip feature is much appreciated
especially when practicing some of the poses which needs
good traction support. These mats are also light to
carry and easy to store, plus its washable. |
| |
| TPE - Also known as Thermo Plastic
Elastomer. It is a range of plastics that are processed
and exhibits the properties of rubber. These are one of the
most expensive mats available as the mat is made of bio
degradable content and environment friendly feature.
However, the price of these mats could be 3 times as
expensive compared to a sticky mat. |
| |
| Organic mats - These mats are made
of organic material such as cotton, jute of natural
latex. However, there are people who are allergic to
material such as latex and should avoid these
altogether. Natural latex mat is also known to have
slightly smelly odor which many may not appreciate
during their yoga session. |
| Thickness |
 |
Yoga mats are available in several thickness
such as 3mm, 4mm and 6mm.
What difference does
it makes?
Its quite straight forward, as a
thicker mat will have better cushioning and
support for a better Yoga or workout session. |
|
| The thinner version such as 3mm and 4mm are cheaper
compared to the 6mm mats. Currently, we are recommending
the 6mm sticky mats available at our online store, as
its easy to roll up, washable and non slip. |
